People often ask how many ghost towns are there in Ontario? Probably hundreds. Some exist in name only whereas others, although mere shadows of their former selves, continue to support small populations. Still other groups, that once supported viable industries, have been reduced to dust and rubble, indistinguishable from the elements that surround them.
This site offers a unique opportunity to explore some of Ontario's lesser-known pages of history, the stuff the marketers and branding experts try and forget about - the ones that just didn't make it. Come visit the communities that didn't grow, or the ones that suffered the ignominy of being bulldozed after they had fulfilled their purpose. We actually make a point of visiting these communities, rather than relying on second-hand information from others.
Even though these settlements tried and failed, all of them managed to play a small part in Ontario's past and deserve to be remembered.
